it's all about industrial design

and a dark side

The first concept studies and industrial design program for high speed train X2000 Night. The customer is the state railway of Sweden: SJ. Design study for new interior that can quickly be adapted to day or night use with all facilities.

The same concept in double-decker version. It is actually the very first sketches for a Swedish double-decker.

SL (Stockholm Local Traffics), Refurbishment of the 52 train set, the old X10 commuting in the Stockholm area. Beginning summer 1998, client TGOJ Mälardalen AB. The design work is a co-operation between Ellipsis and Travel Design AB who has provided  the technical and economical parts of the project. The design-concept won in competition with Nya Perspektiv AB and Adtranz's own design team. I designed the interior with respect to the trains own form characteristics. Some elements like the chairs are completely new, other, like the ceiling and luggage racks are the original but re-designed, this is the very idea and the power of the concept, as well economically as aesthetically.

The amount of people with stress-injured arms due to frequent use of computers and computer peripherals is constantly increasing. These injuries gradually “move” towards shoulders and neck. The ergonomic “gizmos” all over the desktop does not appear to be as efficient as they claim to be.
We all have different length of arms and different size of our hands. The primary rule when it comes to walking is to wear shoes your own size! The length of the upper body is as well of great importance. That is why work with a computer i.e. working with mouse and keyboard. Actually the same way as one adjusts steering wheel, rear-view mirror, and drivers-seat before driving a car.
It is a patented concept of mine. For more information please contact me: info@ellipsis.se

A design-study for Nokia. Teenagers, youngsters and female consumers are the potential users. Very handy, same size as powder box hence, diameter 70-75mm. The round shape allows using a somewhat nostalgic key layout. Having the display placed in the bottom of the panel gives you enough support when pressing the keys. Or why not a cell phone only to talk love, reminding the Olivetti's Lettra type machine at 60's for writing love letters. Somehow, it is still 60's anyway.

PÅGATÅG, commuter trains in Malmöhus, southen parts of  Sweden. It was my first train job in  1992.  Client Länstrafiken Malmöhus. Refurbishment of the old X10s in that area. The task consists of layout and interior in compartments, vestibules and handicap toilets. Changing whole the interior elements. The philosophy of the new interior for the train was the same, being faithful to her lines and curves.
The pictures are chosen from the brochure "Vad tycker du om den nya modellen?"  “What do you think of the new model?” published by Länstrafiken Malmöhus.

We are still at the same train. It's Sweden's first train with a fully functional handicap-toilet. You can turn a wheel chair in 55 km/h, being still at the same room! It’s not required having arms two meters long to reach out for the faucet!
The luggage-rack in this train is my design as well, also used in similar cars running in the Swedish Bohuslän equipped with halogen lights giving away some  620 lux in the direction of the reader, indirect light aimed toward the ceiling, prepared for stereo sound delivery to the passengers etc. The whole design is CAE/FEM-calculated. Tree sturdy soldiers can easily hang on the edge of the rack without causing any harm to themselves not the luggage rack, extruded aluminium altogether.

These sketches are my contribution to the MP3-company Jens of Sweden just before they went belly-up. Unfortunately it was too late for them to understand the need of having an own concept, opposed to putting their brand-name on generic products.
Do I have to mention that the copyright is still mine?

This is a sketch of the project that I'm currently working with for TELIA, the National Swedish telecommunication company. The product will be introduced to the market very soon.
